The new school year is here! As much as we enjoy summer, it’s always great to get back to a routine, and to learning. For the 2019/2020 school year, we thought it would be fun to introduce a theme, and we’re thrilled to share with you that the SCIDES 2019/2020 school theme will be learn & play.
We’re inspired by the Play is the Way® movement and want to explore how we can challenge, support, and engage our students to embrace new ways of learning by incorporating play and stretching their comfort zones a bit.
Playing does not only make it easier to learn and retain information - because you’re approaching it with a more relaxed and curious attitude - it also contributes to building social and emotional skills. And in a world that increasingly relies on online communication and offers a wealth of information at your fingertips, it’s especially important to hone strong emotional and social skills and use those powers responsibly.
Are you ready for playful learning and stretching your comfort zone in the new school year? The learn & play theme will be present throughout the year at SCIDES, and we’re also offering four challenges to start putting learn & play into action. The challenges are open to all teenage secondary students during the 2019/2020 school year, we will have one for each season. Oh, and did we mention there is a prize to be won for each challenge? That’s right a $25 Indigo Chapters Gift Card can be yours if you enter and win!
SCIDES Learn & Play Fall Challenge
The Fall Challenge will run from September 15 to November 15 and is all about trying new things and breaking the routine. Change is hard but also fun, and it’s a great way to stretch yourself and see what makes you feel good and what contributes to your well-being.
We will have 10 prompts for you to try, and you have to do three of them to enter. You’ll get two entries if you complete five, and three entries if you complete all ten. Bonus entry if you show us a picture!
Here’s a sneak peek for some of the prompts:
- Stay off social media for 24 hours
- Join a new group or team
- Organize your workspace (this is great for a before and after picture to get your bonus entry!)
- Read a book from a new genre
Once the challenge goes live we will post the link to a Google Doc where you can enter.
