November is here and while some people are starting to feel festive about the approaching holiday season, others are feeling anxious about the exact same thing. Of course, anxiety is not something that just affects people during the holiday season. It is something that many people - including a lot of school-aged kids and teen - live with all year long. There is help available, and we've compiled a list of resources we want to share with you.
There are many different resources available online and locally, and we encourage you to do your own research. We hope the list we compiled is a starting point for you, and one of our team members is always happy to talk in person and make sure you know where to get help.
One place to start - wherever you live in BC - could be your local school district. Most school districts will have student support services, with both names of teachers and staff to contact, as well as further resources. SD 58, the school district where SCIDES is located, has those resources available here.
Of course, there are seemingly endless resources available online, and wondering where to start and which sites to trust is daunting. Here are a few great options we want to share with you:
To start, you can check out the website Beyond Blue for an explanation what anxiety is, what the signs are, and which treatments are available. You will also find out about some of the possible causes of anxiety and learn how to start feeling better.

Another great resource is the youth section of the Anxiety Canada website. It's fun and interactive, and once you've read some of the information available on the site, you can take a quiz to test your knowledge (of course we are fans of that).
One of the best resources available is the Anxiety Canada website. We've mentioned their youth section already, and it holds a lot more than a quiz! You can find out how your peers are coping and you'll realize that it's not just you. You're not alone! There are two more resources we would like to highlight on this website: creating a MAP (My Anxiety Plan) to have a game plan in place for when anxiety sneaks in, and the Mindshift (TM) app. The app was developed specifically for teens and young adults. It will help you to start facing your anxiety rather than avoiding it. Anxiety won't go away if you avoid it, and facing it will put you in charge. Give it a try!
