New for Summer 2008: Flex-Ed  Partial Courses

Overview for Principals, Counselors and Department Heads

New for this year, Summer Flex-Ed Partial Courses are available as tuition free summer remedial programs.  This replaces our previous Flex-ed program that was available throughout the year.  Based on academic core subjects, Summer Flex-Ed Partial Courses allow students to supplement and strengthen their knowledge and skills in specific areas.

  • A refundable resource deposit of $200.00 will be charged for any summer partial course.  Refunds are based on return of course materials.
  • Students must be registered with SCIDES by July 15th. (Students may register and begin courses any time after June 1st)
  • Course assignments and/or tests must be completed by August 25th.
  • Any outstanding assignments received after August 25th will receive a mark of zero.
  • Summer Partial Courses are limited to a maximum of 1 module or 5 papers

SCIDES will generate a final grade for a partial course.  The school then has the opportunity to augment a student’s grade.

NOTE:  Local school subject teachers select the portions of the course/s that students need to complete.  All applications require the signature of Administration or designate for us to process a student’s application.

This program will be of particular interest to students who:

  • have received an “I” grade in a course and require a remedial plan.
  • need to make up work over the summer in order to complete a course.

Planning for remedial work is essential.  Subject teachers identify a student’s area of weakness or where gaps in learning exist by using our course checklist.  SCIDES will provide the selected paper-based lessons, marking and feedback to students.  A percentage and letter grade will be reported to the school on regular student status reports after August 25th.  Please note:  a student should not be expected to write any unit/module test unless they have completed all of the prerequisite papers in that unit/module.  If students are required to do tests, the school must make arrangements with us for delivery of tests to the school or their alternate summer location.

The following courses are available as Summer Flex-Ed Partial Courses:

NOTE:  This summer program is for partial courses only.  Materials for partial courses not listed below may be selected as complete modules.
