This course is designed to provide students with the mathematical understandings and critical-thinking skills identified for entry into post-secondary programs. In this course the Foundations stream and Pre-calculus stream are combined, and topics include geometry, measurement, logical reasoning, relations and functions, algebra and number, and trigono metry. (Adapted from WNCP Common Curriculum Framework for Grades 10–12 Mathematics ). The textbook Foundations and Pre-calculus Mathematics 10 published by Pearson is required for both the print and online versions of the course. The FMP 10 Media CD is required for the print version of the course only. It contains all of the media included in the online course. Each module has a module test, and two versions of each test are available. The module tests are modeled after the provincial exam. To earn credit for FMP 10, students must write a provincial exam. The exam is worth 20% of the student’s final grade. Module 1: Measurement and its Applications Section 1: Systems of Measurement; Personal Referents; Using Measurement Instruments; Measurement Conversions Section 2: Surface area of 3-D Objects; Volume of 3-D Objects; Surface Area and Volume Problem Solving Section 3: Introduction to Trigonometry; Solving Right Triangle Problems Module 1 Test covers the work of Module 1. Module 2: Algebra and Number Section 1: Factors and Multiples; Square Roots and Cube Roots; Irrational Numbers Section 2: Mixed and Entire Radicals; Integral Exponents; Rational Exponents Section 3: Multiplying Binomials; Multiplying Polynomials; Common Factors; Factoring Trinomials; Factoring Special Trinomials Module 2 Test covers the work of Module 2. Module 3: Relations and Functions Section 1: Interpreting and sketching graphs; Relations; Functions Section 2: Slope; Slope as a Rate of Change Section 3: Linear relations; Properties of Linear Functions; Slope-Intercept Form; General Form; Graphing Linear Functions Module 3 Test covers the work of Module 3. Module 4: Linear Equations and Systems Section 1: Writing Linear Equations; Parallel and Perpendicular Lines; Applications of Linear Equations; Function Notation Section 2: Modeling Linear Systems; Solving Linear Systems by Graphing; Solving Linear Systems by Substitution; Solving Linear Systems by Elimination Section 3: Number of Solutions of a Linear System; Solving Problems Using Linear Systems Module 4 Test covers the work of Module 4.
