COURSE OUTLINE

 

Provincial Exam Required—exam worth 20% of final grade

 

Tests = 60% of school mark / Written Assignments = 40% of school mark

 

It is recommended that students complete:

·         English 9

 

This course consists of three modules and a supplementary exam preparation package. The course begins with Module 2: The Chrysalids novel study, and continues with Module 5: Romeo and Juliet and Module 4: Poetry and Short Stories.  At the teacher's discretion, Module 5 may be replaced with Module 1 (Skill-Building), if the teacher believes the student requires more extensive work on writing skills.

 

The modules focus on the development of critical reading, writing, listening, viewing, speaking and representing skills in relation to different text forms, including the novel, the short story, poetry and drama. There is an emphasis on writing skills including sentence structure, paragraphs, and multi-paragraph compositions. Language lessons including punctuation and grammar are integrated throughout Module 2.
