Grading:

Your grade for this course will be calculated as follows*:
Item Weight
Unit Assignments
40 %
Module Exams
60 %

Unit exams include material from only that specific unit of study. Module exams are invigilated exams that are arranged with your instructor. Notes review happens at Final Exam time when the instructor reviews your entire course notes/assignments. This is done by bringing your notes into Central, scanning them, or photocopying and mailing them.

Resources:

There is NO textbook required for this course. You do need a TI-83 graphing calculator (Texas Instruments) to solve some of the equations. This course contains instructions for the TI-83; however, you may use other models of graphing calculators, like those from Sharp, Casio, Hewlett-Packard (but not the HP-48 series, which is not permitted on the Provincial Exam).

Keys to Success:

  1. Study the Lesson and take good notes for reference when working on homework. Make sure you can do and understand the problems you are shown in the many examples given in each lesson.

  2. Complete the practice assignments after each lesson and check your answers with the answer key.

  3. Correct your mistakes. If you still have trouble with a question you can access the Practice Solutions. Selected solutions are only provided for the more difficult questions.

  4. It is good practice to write the Module Test after your Send-In Assignments have been marked and returned. Use your marked Send-In Assignment as a review for the Module Test.

  5. Principles of Mathematics 12 is a highly academic course. Work out a schedule for yourself of how many lessons you will complete each week. For students writing the Provincial Exam make sure you stick to this schedule as it is paramount in relation to writing the Provincial Exam. Your school counselor will help you set a reasonable date for your Provincial Exam which will determine how many lessons per week you need to master so that you are well prepared for it.

Communication:

Be sure to use your Moodle message system for communication with your instructor. Start by updating your profile with a picture and a little information about yourself. Then message your teacher within the course and ask a question about the course material. You will also want to take part in the weekly Elluminate sessions.
