In this course you will learn what law is, why we have laws, and how the Canadian legal system works. Laws are a crucial component of a democratic and orderly society; without them, Canada would be a much less civilized place to live.

What do I need for this course? (Resources)
In addition to your modules you will need:
- All About Law: Exploring the Canadian Legal System
- Law 12 Media CD (if you have a computer with a CD-ROM drive and choose to not otherwise view the media via the Open School BC Web site)
You may choose to access your media from the Law 12 Media CD rather than via the Internet if your connection speed is slow. You will notice a media asset icon on the screen when you need to view a specific media asset. When you see this icon, open your CD, select the module you are in from the menu, and then select the name of the asset you are viewing. Clicking on the asset directly from the content screen will not automatically link you to the CD.
In order to use the multimedia files on your CD, you must have a computer with one of the following configurations:
- PC: Windows 98 or later
- Macintosh: Mac OS 9 or later
- CD Drive
- Flash 7 Player installed (free to download from Adobe/Macromedia’s Web site)
- Speakers
Course Outline
Each module consists of lessons, guided practice exercises and Learning Log entries, and section assignments (which you will submit for marking). Be sure to work through a lesson and its related activities before beginning a section assignment.
It would be a good idea to have this course outline posted so you can check off the items that you've completed as you work through the course. At the end of the outline there's a list of all course work you'll need to submit to your instructor for marking.
