| Welcome to the South Central Interior Distance Education School! My name is Marc Piché and I will be working with you this year as your Grade 10 homeroom teacher. I am also the English Department Head at SCIDES, and I will be teaching an online Grade 9 English course. I have been teaching for two years, and I was a journalist and newspaper editor before becoming a teacher. I have just moved to Merritt, and I’m looking forward to being a distance education teacher. |
What I do
My job is to follow your progress and to help you with general questions related to grades, marking, provincial exams or courses. For questions about assignments, your marker should be your first contact.
How It Works
You will be submitting your work to the course marker for evaluation. Our markers are highly educated specialists (several are PhDs in their field) and you can count on them to make detailed and useful comments on your work. I will see every piece of work you complete and I will add a note to you before we return the assignment to you.
If you have any problems with a test, contact me and we can discuss whether you can rewrite the test to improve your grade. Make sure to set up a Test Supervisor (see the blue postcard) right away. Your tests will be sent to the supervisor and are written at the end of each module, block or unit.
Get it Done
To succeed at distance education, you must submit work on a regular basis for each course (about 3 to 5 assignments per week). If you don’t hand in work for a period of eight weeks or more, you may be withdrawn from the inactive course. To reactivate the course, you will have to submit work for the course and contact me with an explanation.
Keep in Touch
I expect all of my students to be in contact with me on a regular basis. Please email me at mpiche@scides.ca . You can call me at 800-663-3536, local 1214 or 250-315-1214.
Good luck and good studying! I hope you enjoy your learning experience here at SCIDES. |
