Liz Moore

I am new to SCIDES, and this year I am homeroom teacher for all students in grades eight and nine, some students in grade ten, and I assist in the area of Special Education, as well. I started my teaching career sixteen years ago, in Grand Rapids, Michigan; and I began teaching in Merritt in 1998, in grades six through ten. Since then, I have taught at NVIT, TRU and here in our local school district. I enjoy living in Merritt very much, as the people are friendly and this beautiful valley offers plenty of opportunities for relaxation and fun. I am an avid reader, and rarely go more than ten minutes without reading something. My husband is much more athletic and outdoorsy than I am. He is an ardent hunter, and keeps our family’s pantry well stocked all winter long. He has lived and worked in Merritt much longer than I have; and this, combined with his job in forestry, means he knows British Columbia and its many resources very well, which comes in handy. We have a young daughter who is just beginning her school experience, and she is very excited to get started. She divides her time between being active with her dad, and enjoying quieter activities with me.

My goal as a teacher is to nurture an environment where information is conveyed clearly, where students’ “thinking muscles” are stretched, and where they learn to think independently and critically, for their classroom purposes and beyond. I endeavor to achieve excellence as an instructor and guide, and to inspire that level of distinction in my students.

I look forward to working with my students and their families this year.
