Ian Gordon
I am a secondary teacher at SCIDES, teaching Planning 10, coordinating the Graduation Portfolio, and homeroom teacher to all Grade 11 students.  I have been teaching for 30 years, working in classrooms from grades 2 – 11.  This is my 8th year working in Distributed Learning.  I have two daughters who are pursuing their second years of post secondary education at TRU and UVIC.
I try to keep active and truly enjoy the times I get to spend in the outdoors – boating, hiking, skiing and hunting.  I am a commercial pilot and have been flying for 32 years, and have yet to find anything that beats exploring this beautiful Province of British Columbia from the air.

Education is all about building relationships and communication.  In the evolving world of distributed learning, this may pose to be a rather daunting challenge, however, outfitted with the proper tools and adequate dose of enthusiasm, there is very little that cannot be accomplished within this environment.  The inherent flexibility in our program provides wondrous opportunities for students, and parents, to design education programs that best fit their every need.

The most rewarding experience of the past 8 years came in the form of a personal letter from a student of mine, battling cancer;

“I will continue to keep you posted as to my progress.  I am committed to finishing this course, and as promised, will work to the best of my abilities to complete the program in a timely fashion.  Once again, my most sincere thanks for being so accommodating and your ongoing support and understanding during this difficult time, I deeply appreciate it.”

We are shifting from a mechanistic, manufacturing, industrial society to an organic, service based, information centered society, and increases in technology will continue to impact globally. Change is inevitable. It's the only true constant. Kuhn, Thomas, S
